Bible Translation

“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” Psalm 119: 105

“I am a pastor in the Mmen community in Cameroon. I was struggling to share the Gospel with my people, “ says Pastor Che. “They considered Christianity a foreign religion and were not open to its teachings. I prayed earnestly for a way to reach them. My challenge was teaching them from a French Bible. Almost none of the Mmen people understand French. There was no written form of their language.

“One day I was given an audio version of the Gospel of Luke in the Mmen language. As I listened, my heart grew warm with joy. I understood with such clarity. God has answered my prayer! ‘Now people will understand clearly and some will believe!’ I thought.

“Immediately, I rallied a few Christians in my area to start a literacy class. I wanted them to learn to read and write in our heart language, so we can share the gospel to our people.

“Now, I wonder eagerly how I will feel when I hold a copy of the finished Mmen Bible in my hand for the first time.”

This is the reality of many church leaders in communities that have no Scripture or a written form of their mother tongue. Their church communities struggle to understand the Bible in their national tongue, which either results in them turning away from their faith or mixing their Christian faith with local animism or witchcraft.

OneBook is currently supporting 59 language projects in Africa, Asia and North America. The following is a list of Bible translation and literacy projects that OneBook is presently involved in with our indigenous partners. In almost every case we make a commitment to the people group and their desire for a written language, translation of the Scriptures and other services for a period of 4 to 12 years.
